Where it all started from Yangshuo to Shenzhen

In 2005 I first came to China as a volunteer teacher.  I was sent to a small language training school in Yangshuo.  I was to teach young business people who had taken leave of their jobs for 3 to 6 months to improve their English skill.  I returned to California but could not get the enthusiasm of the students out of my mind.  So I returned to China three months later to see what I could do to help these students.  I began a Free English Corner at a local Juice Bar. 10-05-09-YANGSHUO-OPEN-TALK-REGULARS5  It started out with just a few students from some of the local training centers. In time it grew.  The next year I returned  to the Juice bar in Yangshuo and the word had spread quickly. 10-20-09-YANGSHUO-OPEN-TALK-HAINAN10   4-22-10 YANGSHUO OPEN TALK1B  Each year from them more and more students came to what we now called the China Cultural Center.  We began to tutor local children in English and some adults.  Our English corner continued to grow.  10-27-09-YANGSHUO-OPEN-TALK With the training center well established in 20011 I decide to go to Shenzhen.  That was where a lot of my former students had gone to find work.  The idea was to go and see if I could help them with their new businesses.  Once again we started our Free English corner.   We also began to offer classes in Business English and English Communication skills (American style).  We expanded our scope to include a number of student pilots and others who needed to learn English and American culture so that they could study abroad in the USA.  DSCF1126  DSCF1132

We are still hoping to expand.  We hope that word will spread here in Shenzhen like it did in Yangshuo.
